Learner: Nicole                    Learning Coach: Miriam Kamsteeg             Date: 2 Nov 2015
Learning Area: Literacy - Writing
Learning Observed
Today Nicole was writing with me. She drew her brainstorm picture and then began writing. She wrote her story and then we read it together. We discussed where the full stops needed to be and that she did not need to repeat herself in her story.
Evidence of learning

Nicole’s writing is improving more and more. I wonder if she is practising at home?

Nicole is continuing to improve her Capabilities in Writing. She was able to create a story in her head and then record it (Thinking). Nicole was able to settle quickly to write a story by herself (Managing Self). She was able to use many different letters to record sounds (Using Language, Symbols and Texts).

iExperience Narrative Assessment

Learner:  Nicole                 Learning Coach: Mr Hattie            Date: 15 September 2015
Learning Area: iExperience
Learning Observed
This week the learners got to have an interesting experience. They had to work collaboratively while exploring and experiencing play with a tyre. This is part of a way that we can spark some interesting discussions and writing around a real life experience while gaining new vocabulary. Nicole was with her group and discussing the different ways that her and her group could move the tyre. They were very excited and the new vocabulary that came out of this was great to hear. Nicole was discussing with her group the different ways that they can more the tyre. They tried flipping the tyre but they came to the conclusion that rolling it was the best option.
Evidence of learning

Nicole is discussing with her group what is the best way to move the tyre. They first try flipping it.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
“Collaboration” was one of the vision principles that were being used during this activity. “Curious” was another vision principle that was being used as the learners had a lot of questions.
Next Learning Steps
Nicole’s next learning steps are:
  • create some writing about her experience to use her new vocabulary.

Narrative Assessment - Literacy - 18 June 2015

Learner: Nicole       Learning Coach:  Miriam Kamsteeg            Date: 18 June 2015
Learning Area: Literacy - Reading
Learning Observed
Nicole was reading “I can Read” today. She was able to point to words as she was reading. She read “ I can read to my mum”. Nicole floated her finger over the words she she did not realise that there was no word “my” in the text. She did the same on the next page with “I can read to dad”. She turned the page and said, “I can read to nnnn”. I said, “to Nana”. Next she said, “I can read to… - I don’t know this”. I said, “I can read to my sister”. She then read the text, “I can read to my sister”. Nicole read “I can read to my teacher”. She looked hard at the next picture and said that she didn’t know it. I said, “I can read to my friend”. She repeated it after me. She then turned to the last page and read, “I can read to myself”.
Evidence of learning

Nicole is able to look at the picture to decode what the word might say. I wonder if she practises this at home when she reads?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Nicole scored 1/24 on the Duncan Word test. She is developing her Capabilities in dusing picture cues. Nicole is starting to match her finger up to the word she says (Thinking). She is reading many words in the story (Using Language, Symbols and Texts).
Next Learning Steps
  • Continue teaching to point to each word
  • Continue to teach sounding out the beginning sound of unknown words
  • Share learning with home.

Narrative Assessment - Mathematics - 5 June 2015

Learner: Nicole          Learning Coach: Miriam Kamsteeg             Date: 5 June 2015
Learning Area: Mathematics - Numeracy
Learning Observed
Today I was completing a Numeracy Knowledge Assessment with Nicole. I first showed her the numerals 1-9 in a random order and asked her to tell me what the numbers were. She was able to recognise 1-5, but not 6-9. Next I asked her to count forwards to 10. Nicole did this easily. Then I asked her to count backwards from 10. She was also able to do this. I then got her to start counting and listened for where she was unable to continue counting to. I was unable to correctly distinguish if she was saying 12, 13, 14, 15 or 12, 14, 14, 15. I got her to repeat her counting again and was still unable to understand.
Evidence of learning

Nicole is able to recognise numerals 1-5. I wonder if she practises this at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Nicole was sequencing the numbers in her head in order to count correctly (Thinking). She is developing her Capabilities in counting and numeral recognition. Nicole is starting to recognise numerals to 10 (Using Language, Symbols and Text).
Next Learning Steps
  • Work with her to get her to annunciate 13 and 14 correctly when counting.
  • Explicit teaching on 6-9 numeral recognition
  • Explicit teaching on what number comes before and after numerals to 10.
